Set supervision goals and review hours together

Updated August 31, 2026

Who can use this

You can set goals and review hours for any supervisee you have an active supervision relationship with. Both live on that supervisee's profile, alongside their sessions and shared documents.

Open Supervisees and select the supervisee to reach the profile.

Review the hours you have completed together

The Overview tab shows Your hours together: the total supervision hours you and that supervisee have completed on Motivo, broken out by individual, dyad, and group time.

These totals cover your relationship only. They are not the supervisee's full licensure progress, which can also include hours with other supervisors and hours completed away from Motivo. Only completed sessions marked as attended count toward them, and partial attendance counts the recorded minutes rather than the full scheduled duration.

Add a goal

Goals are set by you, not by the supervisee. The supervisee can view them at any time from their side of the relationship, but cannot add or change them.

  1. Open the supervisee's profile and select the Goals tab.
  2. Select Add a goal the first time, or Add new goal when a goal already exists.
  3. Enter the goal in Goals. The field accepts several lines, so you can list more than one objective in a single goal.
  4. Save the goal.

The newest goal becomes the current goal and appears at the top of the tab with the date it was added.

Update or replace a goal

There are two different actions here, and the difference matters:

  • Edit goal changes the current goal in place. Use it to correct or refine wording that is still accurate.
  • Add new goal creates a new current goal and moves the previous one into the goal history. Use it when supervision has moved on and you want the earlier goal preserved as a record.

Past goals stay available under the current goal, collapsed behind a control that expands them. Each one keeps the date it was added, so the tab reads as a record of how the supervision focus has changed.

What the supervisee sees

The supervisee sees your goals on their view of the relationship, under Your supervision goals, along with the date each was added. Until you add the first one, they see a note saying you have not added any goals yet.

Because the supervisee cannot edit goals, talk through any change with them rather than relying on the tab to communicate it.
