How Motivo vets supervisors

Every supervisor in the directory has been through the same review. Nobody appears there by signing up.

What we check

• Licensure credentials. We verify the license and supervision credentials each supervisor submits, and we review the documents behind them. Review is done by a person, not automatically at upload, and a supervisor's profile is not published until it passes.
• A conversation. Every supervisor completes a video call with the Motivo team before joining the network, covering their clinical experience, areas of expertise, and how they approach supervision.
• A signed attestation. Supervisors sign a legal attestation that they meet the requirements to supervise in the state where they will be supervising.

Motivo also tracks credential expiry after a supervisor joins, so an expired licence does not sit unnoticed on a published profile.

License types

Motivo supervisors are licensed across most states, in these categories:

• Social workers, such as LCSW, LMSW, and LICSW
• Professional and mental health counselors, such as LPC, LPCC, LCPC, LMHC, and LCMHC
• Marriage and family therapists, such as LMFT and LCMFT
• Licensed psychologists
• Addiction counselors, such as CADC, CSAC, LADC, LCAS, and MAC
• Behavior analysts, including BCBA and LBA
• Bachelor's-level practitioners
• Registered behavior technicians
• Peer support specialists

Supervision credentials are tracked separately from the license itself, so you may also see designations such as AAMFT Approved Supervisor, Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS), Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor (CPCS), or Registered Play Therapy Supervisor (RPT-S) on a profile.

If your state requires some supervision in person

Motivo is a virtual platform, but plenty of boards require part of your supervision face to face, and that does not rule Motivo out.

Motivo collects your zip code when you set up your account, and our team uses it when arranging a match so we can look for a supervisor within driving distance. Note that the directory's own filters are by state, license type, specialty, and modality rather than by distance, so if in-person time is a requirement, say so when you request an intro call and raise it on the call itself.
