How Motivo vets supervisors

Updated August 31, 2026

This is the page to send to your compliance or procurement team.

Who Motivo works with

Motivo partners with behavioral health employers of most shapes: community mental health centers, non-profits, digital health companies, treatment centers, hospital systems, and health plans.

Every partner is assigned an Employer Care Manager who handles matching, briefs supervisors on your internal processes, and stays your named contact rather than a support queue.

What every supervisor goes through

  • Credential verification. Motivo verifies the license and supervision credentials each supervisor submits and reviews the supporting documents. Review is manual, and a profile is not published until it passes. Credential expiry is tracked afterwards, so a lapsed license does not sit unnoticed on a live profile.
  • A video interview. Every supervisor completes a call with the Motivo team covering clinical experience, areas of expertise, and their approach to supervision.
  • A signed attestation. Supervisors sign a legal attestation that they meet the requirements to supervise in the state where they will supervise.

License types covered

Motivo supervisors are licensed across most states, in these categories:

  • Social workers, such as LCSW, LMSW, and LICSW
  • Professional and mental health counselors, such as LPC, LPCC, LCPC, LMHC, and LCMHC
  • Marriage and family therapists, such as LMFT and LCMFT
  • Licensed psychologists
  • Addiction counselors, such as CADC, CSAC, LADC, LCAS, and MAC
  • Behavior analysts, including BCBA and LBA
  • Bachelor's-level practitioners
  • Registered behavior technicians
  • Peer support specialists

Supervision credentials are tracked separately from the license, so profiles may also show designations such as AAMFT Approved Supervisor, Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS), Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor (CPCS), or Registered Play Therapy Supervisor (RPT-S).

Which license categories and states your organization is eligible for is part of your agreement. If you need one that is not covered, raise it with your Employer Care Manager.

States that require some supervision in person

Motivo is a virtual platform, but a board requirement for face-to-face supervision does not rule it out.

Zip codes are collected when supervisees are added, and your Care Manager uses them when matching so a supervisor within driving distance can be found. The directory's own filters are by state, license type, specialty, and modality rather than by distance, so tell your Care Manager up front which of your employees need in-person time.
